English Credo was created in 2014 with the following objectives:

• to help fulfil the need for Polish Nationals to learn and/or develop their English Language skills in order to improve their chances of success in examinations, at work and in business.
• to assist English speakers in Warsaw in finding fun and educational activities offered in the English Language.

We aim to meet these objectives by offering a range of fun and educational classes for everyone from two year old children, just starting to acquire language skills, to teenagers aiming to pass their first national or international examinations and adults hoping to improve their career prospects.

Hanna Meijer née Pac. ME

My specialism is preschool and early year’s education. I worked for The British School, Warsaw  http://www.nordangliaeducation.com/our-schools/warsaw from 2000 to 2008 during which time I attended a number of courses including ‘The Foundation Stage’ course in Manchester. Since 2001 I have run numerous education related classes, for graduate students at the University of Warsaw http://www.pedagog.uw.edu.pl/REKRUT/  including, Teaching English at School and Early Years Education in Great Britain.

In 2004, whilst working for The Methodological Centre for Psychological and Pedagogical Support, I translated, from English to Polish, the health education program ‘Zippy’s Friends’ licensed to Poland by an English organisation called Partnership for Children. From 2007 to 2013 I was living in Cairo Egypt where I continued my research on the British education system and I ran some educational projects with the assistance of The British School Al Rehab http://www.tbs-cairo.com/ , started the Polish Club in Cairo https://www.facebook.com/pages/Klub-Polski-w-Kairze/108659255963803  and worked for the British International School in Madinaty .

In 2014 I started English CREDO.

 

Multi-sensory games to teach English to 3-8 year olds

Workshops for parents and teachers who want to know how to play with children aged 3-8 to teach them English using a multi-sensory approach. During the classes we will use LETTERLAND educational resources. After the workshop LETTERLAND books and games will be available for purchase.

Lesson observation and resultant training

Classroom observation can be an important tool in raising standards through supporting practitioners in sharing and developing their skills and so improving outcomes for learners.

English Credo’s approach to lesson observation is a developmental one where we observe lessons which can highlight areas for improvement and then we follow this up with the appropriate training.

This includes a 45 minute lesson observation and 15 minutes of verbal feedback plus a written report.

UK National Curriculum 2014 – WORKSHOP

The National Curriculum (NC) was introduced in the UK by The Education Reform Act of 1988 that unified British schooling. It divided the process of education into graduating stages. Each stage prepares for the next one but the Early Years Education Foundation Stage is considered as crucial for future success. The NC expects schools to provide education that prepares “… pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life”[1]. All schools following the NC are expected to have their own curricula that not only teach students the subject knowledge but also help them to develop skills and understanding within each subject. This is not an easy task for schools especially if the NC content is revised every few years.

English CREDO offers workshops about the latest version of the NC which was implemented in September 2014 and about related statutory guidance publications for schools (e.g.: lesson planning, assessment, behaviour and attendance, early years foundation stage, involving parents and pupils in the education process, special educational / health needs).

Letterland ELT/ESL

The Letterland Fix-it Phonics Programme is a UK programme for teaching English as a Second Language. This programme helps to develop phonemic awareness which is very important in learning correct pronunciation. It also enables very young learners to develop pre-writing and pre-reading skills and helps them memorise the shape and direction of letters.

The programme contains lots of catchy songs; interesting activities and multimedia resources which help students consolidate their knowledge. The teaching is multisensory and adopts Total Physical Response methods.

Zippy’s Friends-personal, social and health education for children aged 5-7 years

“Zippy’s Friends” is an international PSHE programme which helps young children to develop their social and personal skills. It teaches how to deal with difficulties in a variety of ways and how to use the acquired skills in everyday life. It also shows ways of improving relationships with other people. The program has been developed by a team of international specialists and has been implemented in many countries around the world, including Poland. Zippy’s Friends classes can be held at the English CREDO premises, as well as in schools and preschools.
